2020 San Diego Comic-Con Cancelled
Supporters behind the Video Game and Comic Book industries were hoping that the “2020 San Diego Comic-Com” wouldn’t be cancelled amidst the novel coronavirus pandemic. Organizers were forced to terminate the yearly venue to ensure the safety of attendees, employees, and organizers. Those who purchased tickets for this venue have been provided two options, become a ticketholder for the 2021 event or receive an immediate refund. It should be mentioned that this marks the 1st time in fifty years that the SDCC has shut down operations.
An official statement was unveiled to supporters and employees, which expressed their incredible disappointed in postponing one of the most celebrated pop-culture events in North America. Representatives issuing this statement mentioned that unprecedented times have required organizers to implement extraordinary measures, allowing for associated individuals and supporters with SDCC to be protected. Sentiments were finalized with SDCC Reps noting that they’ll provide the community with a fantastic 2021 venue. Until then, we love our community and hope we haven’t lost your trust.
Previous Concerns
Pop culture & video game enthusiasts were already concerned that the 2020 San Diego Comic-Con would be terminated. This concern followed after venues like the Electronic Consumers Exposition, the Game Developers Conference, and PAX East. Announcements for new video games or pop culture events have been forced into the virtual atmosphere. Some conferences by the CDC provided a virtual version of their festivities, which didn’t seem remotely the same level of popularity.
Social distancing measures throughout the United States of America are expected to be lifted by Mid-July. However, extensions on the lockdown period can be initiated for public protection. The World Health Organization recommends that mass gatherings shouldn’t be implemented for two years until a vaccine is provided. Under these specific conditions, the 2021 San Diego Comic-Con would also be inevitably cancelled.
Medical experts have begun informing American civilians to brace themselves for the long haul. It follows after these individuals didn’t practice proper social distancing when it was initially put into effect. We’ll provide our readers with any updates on if SDCC plans to hold a virtual venue in June.
