Halo Launching Free Multiplayer
Microsoft’s 343 Industries made a shocking announcement to the video game industry on August 1st. It was confirmed that Halo Infinite’s Multiplayer would be free-to-play, following a similar format to Warzone from Call of Duty. Their confirmation came after related leaks prompted an excessive level of speculation through online forums like Reddit. Their announcement revealed that the multiplayer component runs at 120FPS with the Xbox Series X, with 4K HDR with Low-Latency also supported. Additional details regarding the multiplayer component have been left private for now, with 343 Industries confirming that new information will come closer to the game’s release. This is conventional for multiplayer portions of Triple-A Games.
343 Industries didn’t confirm if they’ll be implementing a “Battle Pass Subscription” within this free multiplayer component, which seems inevitable if following the same strategy as Warzone. Halo Infinite’s Multiplayer is subsequently not free under that pretence. However, costs will be considerably lower with the recent announcement that “Xbox Live Gold” will be discontinued after the Xbox Series X launches. Combining these two attributes shows that Microsoft is taking their online services to new heights, hoping it’ll dominate over Sony’s PlayStation5.
Multiplayer Footage Unavailable
Developers behind Halo Infinite have been secretive when releasing new details regarding their upcoming game. What has been shown is minimal campaign footage, which evoked an onslaught of backlash from millions of dedicated Halo supporters. Complaints centred around the graphical integrity of Halo Infinite, which most consider simplistic & plastic-like. Additional claims also evoke that 343 Industries had copied the gameplay aesthetics of the Doom franchise, which is severely different from Halo. Gamers noted their disappointment towards the continued changes that 343 Industries has made towards Halo since taking over the franchise from Bungie.
Following these complaints, 343 Industries isn’t following for a Campaign or Multiplayer Beta to be released. It’s suspected that these developers will alter specific attributes of Halo Infinite to ensure a monetary gain. Refusal to upgrade the graphics & gameplay could result in 343 Industries upcoming game being their final under the Halo banner. Microsoft would be left to likely shelve the Halo franchise for a decade, similarly to the recently announced revival for Fable.
