Sony Computer Entertainment Invests Into Epic Games
An investment nobody would’ve anticipated has been announced. It was revealed that Sony Entertainment has purchased a $250 million stake into Epic Games, which provides the creators of PlayStation minimal leeway in share acquisition. Sony obtains 1.4% interest from their $250 investment, which follows after Epic Games was valued at $17.86 Billion. They’re currently the highest-valued gaming company worldwide.
Media personnel with Epic Games clarified that collaborative strategies across PlayStations portfolio of technologies would be better accessed through this investment. Epic Games confirmed that their “Social Entertainment Digital Ecosystem” will create proprietary experiences exclusive for the PS4 & PS5. The keyword here is experiences, meaning digital concerts from Epic Games Fortnite & other virtual multimedia events. Consumers shouldn’t expect exclusive downloadable content for the PlayStation5 or PS4.
The Next Generation of Entertainment
COVID-19 proved that various forms of entertainment could traverse video games, including music. This follows after Fortnite held concerts with many arts, which are listed down below.
- Travis Scott.
- Diplo.
- Marshmallow.
- Steve Aoki.
- Deadmouse.
- Miley Cyrus.
- Thomas Wesley.
Music hasn’t been the exclusive form of entertainment to coincide with Fortnite. They’ve also maintained Film Trailers & short scenes from upcoming films. Epic Games has even used this format to stand behind the Black Lives Matter Movement.
- Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (One Minute Scene).
- Tenet (World Premier Trailer).
- OPUS United: We Are the People (Black Lives Matter Movement).
Sony Computer Entertainment indicated that their goal with the $250 million investment is to create exclusive in-game concerts & films. Analysts are speculating that Sony will use their film division to develop movies or TV series for Fortnite, which is already confirmed to be arriving on the PlayStation5. An official statement regarding their goals was issued by Sony, where they indicated that both themselves & Epic Games share an identical vision to provide social experiences through a 3D Environment.
This will converge the music, film, and gaming genres into one hub. Sentiments were finalized by confirming that Sony Pictures and Sony Music have both been informed to prepare for exclusive content. So, it’s not a matter if this goal will be accomplished, but when it’ll be finalized & released to the public.
