What is Fortnite

For those of you who are new to the PC gaming world, Fortnight is PC game designed and produced by Epic Games and was released in 2017. It hosts three different game modes which cater to all gaming types. The two first modes, Fortnite: Save the World and Fortnite: Battle Royale was available to access with the game was first released, in December of 2018 the third mode, Fortnite: Creative was released. These modes use the same engine with the art, mechanics and graphics being similar. The game modes have all been successful for the developers with Battle Royale attracting 125 million players in under a year and generating copious amounts of income.

Fortnite: Save the World

Set in an apocalyptic type environment, the only survivors of an annihilating storm, a mere 2% of the population, become home base commanders. This game is a player versus environment game where a team of 4 players work together to achieve a mutual goal. The commanders collect resources, save other survivors and guard the equipment needed for storm data collection and to fend off the storm. Have the zombie-like creatures who are out to get the survivors been mentioned?

Fortnite: Battle Royale

In this player on the player game, 100 players, with no reserves whatsoever, drop from an aircraft above a map. Players can choose to work alone, in pairs or a pod of three or four players. Once on the ground, the players hunt for armoury, weaponry and other resources, often being able to utilize trucks and cars while taking out other players and trying to reach the ever-shrinking safe zone, before the storm hits. This causes more player on player encounters, making it harder to stay alive. The last remaining player or team wins the round, much like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds by PUBG corporation, but with a sci-fi-like twist.

Fortnite: Creative

This is a “sandbox” game, for those of you who are not entirely sure what a sandbox game is, it is an environment in which there are limited constraints on players, allowing them to wander around and build fortifications. In Fortnite: Creative, players can create to their heart’s content, things like racetracks or battle stadiums, anything. An exciting initiative of Epic Games is that they assess some of the designs and use the best in “The Box” which is a waiting room, in Battle Royale. This encourages players to design and create in the hopes that the online gaming community will see their buildings.
