New Call of Duty League launches
A dozen teams have paid $25 million or more to secure their place in Activision Blizzard’s newly-formed Call of Duty League.
The eagerly-anticipated league will launch in January 2020 with 12 franchises representing different international cities from four different countries.
The company has already enjoyed huge success with its Overwatch League, and the Call of Duty League is expected to follow in its footsteps.
Teams of five players will play league matches on the PlayStation 4 version of ‘Call of Duty Modern Warfare’.
The regular season will begin in on January 24, with the campaign culminating with the Call of Duty League Championships during August or September.
Singapore-based firm pushing mobile eSports
eSports Pte Ltd recently announced the launch of eSports Pro League (ESPL), a worldwide eSports tournament and media network.
The Singapore-based firm will stage national tournaments across different games, focusing heavily on mobile platforms. Michael Broda, CEO of eSports Pro League, said: “
We are very excited to launch the first season of the eSports Pro League in February 2020. “Response from our international partners has been overwhelmingly positive. There is so much interest in ESPL.”
ESPL is set to commence during February and will run through until December.
Modern Times Group goes global
Modern Times Group (MTG) has announced a new eSports tour that will be the world’s biggest Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) circuit.
MTG will bring together more than 20 CS:GO leagues and tournaments from across the globe, giving players the chance to win a share of a $5 million prize pot.
President and CEO, Jorgen Madsen Lindemann, says that the new competition will help significantly with the monetisation of media rights in eSports.
“The new ESL Pro Tour is the first of its kind and is made possible by our ownership of the two global players in eSports, ESL and DreamHack,” he said.
“We will continue to leverage our unique position to further professionalise the eSports industry and our ambition is to announce more global activations similar to ESL Pro Tour.”
