Postponements for Steam’s Summer Game Festival
Valve confirmed over the June 5th weekend that the “Steam Summer Game Festival” will be delayed by several days. Slated to arrive the following Tuesday on June 9th, formidable sales for PC Gamers won’t be available until June 16th. This does mean that cheaper titles will be supported by additional several days until June 22nd. An official reason wasn’t provided for the delay, with Valve expecting their supporters to presume that is centres around the murder of George Floyd & international Black Lives Matter Movement. This delay could be beneficial for consumers that wouldn’t have an influx of funds by June 9th.
It’s not surprising that Valve followed suit with postponing the “Steam Summer Game Festival”. Similar measures were enforced throughout multiple franchises & brands in the gaming industry, with this 1st being sparked by the Sony Company. It was confirmed that the PS5 Announcement Event would be postponed until a period where this movement is resolved. Postponed events include Fortnite Season Three, with Rockstar Games shutting down their online services for Grand Theft Auto Five and Red Dead Redemption Two. These shutdowns were implemented in honour of George Floyd.
Loyalists behind the Steam platform remarked that Valve hadn’t provided official reasoning on purpose, hiding behind this recent movement to account for other issues associated with the Summer Gave Festival. This would follow suit with Valve’s maintenance history with Steam, which often is suffered from plaguing problems that take days to reprimand. Similar problems could be practical with the SSGF, with these protests providing Valve the required time to resolve these complications. It’d be a significant coincidence & be an unconfirmed suspicion for decades to come.
SSGF 2020
The Steam Summer Game Festival comprises of two portions, with the 1st centred around Limited-Time Demos for upcoming Triple-A Titles. These games are often slated for the forthcoming 4th or 3rd quarter, with the 2020 SSGF slated to support multiple next-generation titles. The secondary portion of the Steam Summer Game Festival is the magnitude of titles for sale, working similar to the Spring & Winter Sales. It should be mentioned that a list of supported demos for the Summer Game Festival wasn’t released by Valve or Steam.
